What are Microsoft 365 Copilot agents?
Microsoft 365 Copilot agents are like focused, expert assistants that live inside your existing Microsoft 365 environment. They’re designed to help you and your team handle specific tasks more efficiently, using the data you already work with every day—emails, documents, meetings, and even websites.
Instead of manually digging through files or repeating the same steps over and over, you can rely on these agents to:
- Streamline repetitive tasks
- Surface and summarize relevant information
- Deliver actionable insights based on your content
In short, Copilot agents help you reimagine how work gets done across your organization by taking on the routine, information-heavy parts of your job so you can focus on higher-value work.
How do Microsoft 365 Copilot agents work with my data?
Copilot agents are pre-built tools that operate within your existing Microsoft 365 data. They can work across:
- Emails – to pull out key updates, decisions, or action items
- Documents – to summarize content, compare versions, or extract details
- Meetings – to capture notes, follow-ups, and next steps
- Websites – to reference relevant information and context
Once set up, an agent can automate parts of your workflow—such as monitoring incoming information, organizing it, and presenting it in a way that’s easier to act on. The goal is to help you rethink how you handle information-heavy processes, so your team spends less time searching and more time deciding and doing.
Where can Copilot agents add value in my organization?
Copilot agents are designed to support a range of business functions, especially where there are repeatable processes and a lot of information to manage. Common examples include:
- Finance – A finance-focused agent can help automate routine tasks like reviewing financial documents, tracking updates from email, or preparing summaries for reports.
- HR – An HR agent can assist with organizing candidate information, summarizing interview notes, or pulling together policy details from multiple documents.
- Marketing and other teams – Teams can use agents to gather content from different sources, prepare briefs, or keep track of key updates from meetings and communications.
By applying agents across finance, HR, marketing, and other departments, organizations can reshape how teams collaborate and manage information, freeing people up to focus on the work that has the most impact.
